Emily Brontë (1818-1848) was an English writer whose only novel, Wuthering Heights (1847), is one of the most celebrated works in English literature. The story of dark passion and revenge on the Yorkshire moors secured her lasting fame, despite her death at thirty. She also wrote poetry, published under the male pseudonym Ellis Bell.
