About

Вій (Viy) is a Kyiv-based Ukrainian dark ethno-fusion band founded in February 1991 by Dmytro Dobryi-Vechir, Ihor Lemeshko and Oleh Kozlov. Drawing on Slavic paganism, Ukrainian folk mythology and instruments such as the kobza, hurdy-gurdy and flute, the band built a sound that sits somewhere between psychedelic rock and ancient ritual. They are widely regarded as one of the first dark-folk projects in independent Ukraine, and their influence on younger generations of Ukrainian musicians is documented by the 2007 tribute album 'Ochi Vidmy'.
