About

Esoteric is an English funeral doom metal band from Birmingham, founded in July 1992 by vocalist/guitarist Greg Chandler and guitarist Gordon Bicknell. Across seven studio albums - from the sprawling double-CD debut Epistemological Despondency (1994) to A Pyrrhic Existence (2019) - they have built a reputation as one of the genre's founding acts, known for glacial tempos, layered psychedelic guitars, and compositions that routinely stretch past 20 minutes. They record and produce at Chandler's own Priory Recording Studios and release through Season of Mist.
