Falco, born Johann Hölzel on 19 February 1957 in Vienna, was an Austrian singer, songwriter and rapper who blended new wave, synth-pop and German-language rap into a sound entirely his own. His 1985 single "Rock Me Amadeus" remains the only German-language song ever to reach number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, and it topped the charts in the UK, Canada and a dozen other countries. According to his estate, he sold 20 million albums and 40 million singles - making him the best-selling Austrian recording artist of all time. He died in a traffic accident on 6 February 1998 at the age of 40, and his music has never left the airwaves.
