Federico Albanese is an Italian composer, pianist, and producer born in Milan in 1982, who moved to Berlin in 2012 and later returned to northern Italy. His music weaves together contemporary classical, ambient, and electronic textures into cinematic instrumental works, and he has scored films, documentaries, and television productions alongside his solo albums. His fifth studio album, Blackbirds and the Sun of October (2025, XXIM/Sony), was written and recorded in his home region of Monferrato in Piedmont. The soundtrack for Sasha Nathwani's debut film Last Swim, which he scored in 2023, won the Crystal Bear at the 74th Berlinale in 2024.
Albanese announced a string of fall 2025 European tour dates and released the new single 'First Poem'.
His fifth studio album Blackbirds and the Sun of October was released on February 7, 2025 via Sony's XXIM label.
The film Last Swim, scored by Albanese, premiered at the 74th Berlinale in February 2024 and won the Crystal Bear for best film in the Generation 14+ section.
Albanese composed the score for Simone Godano's feature film Sei Fratelli, starring Riccardo Scamarcio and Adriano Giannini.
Albanese returned to northern Italy after a decade in Berlin, settling in Monferrato in Piedmont, where he later recorded his 2025 album.
