Fischer-Z is a British rock band founded in 1976 at Brunel University by singer, guitarist and poet John Watts, who has remained its sole constant member ever since. Rooted in new wave and post-punk, the band broke through across Europe and Australia with their first three albums - Word Salad (1979), Going Deaf for a Living (1980) and Red Skies Over Paradise (1981) - selling over two million records in total. Watts has kept the project alive through decades of touring and more than 26 albums, blending sharp social commentary with melodic craft, and has shared stages with The Police, Dire Straits and Bob Marley.
