Franz Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) was an Austrian composer of the Classical period. He wrote more than 100 symphonies and is widely regarded as a founding figure of symphonic and chamber music, earning him the nickname "Father of the Symphony". He spent much of his career in the service of the Esterházy family.
