About

La gazza ladra (The Thieving Magpie) is an 1817 opera by Gioachino Rossini, written in the semiseria genre. It follows Ninetta, a servant girl wrongly condemned to death for theft, and moves between dark social drama and a last-minute happy ending. The overture, with its prominent snare drums, is among Rossini's most recognizable pieces.
