Geoff Tate is an American rock singer born in Stuttgart, West Germany, best known as the original frontman of progressive metal band Queensrÿche, which he led from 1982 to 2012. With Queensrÿche he recorded the landmark 1988 concept album Operation: Mindcrime and the triple-platinum Empire (1990), whose single 'Silent Lucidity' reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned two Grammy nominations. After parting ways with Queensrÿche, he retained the rights to perform the Operation: Mindcrime material and has continued touring and recording under the Geoff Tate's Operation: Mindcrime banner, releasing a new Operation: Mindcrime III in May 2026.
Geoff Tate released Operation: Mindcrime III independently on May 3, 2026, a new concept album revisiting the Mindcrime universe from the perspective of antagonist Dr. X.
Tate announced the 2026 US leg of his 'Operation: Mindcrime - The Final Chapter' tour, billed as the last-ever full performance of the 1988 album, featuring a full string ensemble and laser light show.
'Silent Lucidity' re-entered the Billboard charts in March 2025 after being featured in the final episode of Netflix's Cobra Kai, reaching #3 on the Hard Rock Digital Song Sales chart.
