Georg Danzer (1946-2007) was a Viennese singer-songwriter and poet, widely regarded as one of the founding figures of Austropop. His lyrics - sharp, ironic, and rooted in the Viennese dialect - ranged from biting social commentary to tender personal reflection, leaving behind a catalogue of some 400 songs. Alongside Wolfgang Ambros and Rainhard Fendrich he formed the supergroup Austria3, and he received the Amadeus Austrian Music Award both for his album Persönlich (2004) and, posthumously, for his lifetime achievement (2007).
Annual tribute concerts 'Danke Danzer' (6-8 Oct, Gemischter Satz) and 'DanzerMania' (18-20 Oct, Orpheum Wien) are scheduled for October 2025, with confirmed performers including Birgitt Denk, Tini Kainrath and Roman Gregory.
Danzer received the Amadeus Austrian Music Award for his lifetime achievement in May 2007, weeks before his death from lung cancer on 21 June 2007.
Danzer's comeback concert at the Wiener Stadthalle on 16 April 2007 - his last public performance - saw Wolfgang Ambros and Rainhard Fendrich join him on stage for several songs.
Danzer won the Amadeus Austrian Music Award for Best Album (national) for Persönlich (2004).
