Georg Elser (1903-1945) was a German carpenter who attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler on 8 November 1939 by planting a bomb in Munich's Bürgerbräukeller beer hall. Hitler left the venue a few minutes before the explosion, and the attempt failed. Elser was arrested, held in concentration camps, and executed shortly before the end of the war.
