About

Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) was an Italian opera composer from Lucca, Tuscany, widely regarded as the greatest Italian opera composer after Giuseppe Verdi. His mature works - La bohème, Tosca, Madama Butterfly and the posthumously premiered Turandot - rank among the most performed operas in the world. Puccini worked in the verismo tradition, building his dramas around psychologically vivid heroines and lush, melodically driven orchestration that has kept his music at the centre of the repertoire for over a century.
