About

Hans Söllner (born 24 December 1955 in Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria) is a German singer-songwriter who performs in Bavarian dialect, blending reggae, folk and Liedermacher traditions into a style the Bayerischer Rundfunk placed in the "Great Bavarian Songbook". His sharply political lyrics - directed at the state, the church and social injustice - have earned him over EUR 300,000 in court fines and made him one of the most distinctive voices in German-language alternative music. In 2009 he received the German Weltmusikpreis Ruth at TFF Rudolstadt, with the jury calling him "a writing and singing anarchist of the German music scene, deeply rooted in the Bavarian language and way of life".
