Hatsune Miku is a virtual singer created by Japanese company Crypton Future Media in 2007, built on Yamaha's Vocaloid voice-synthesis technology. Her iconic look - teal twin tails and a futuristic outfit - has made her a global symbol of Japanese pop culture. At live shows she performs as a holographic projection backed by a real band.
