Jack Black (born August 28, 1969) is an American actor, comedian, singer and musician best known for School of Rock (2003), the Kung Fu Panda franchise, and his comedy-rock duo Tenacious D, which he co-founded with Kyle Gass in 1994. His accolades include a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance, an Emmy Award, and three Golden Globe nominations; in 2018 he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. On screen he has moved fluidly between live-action comedy and blockbuster voice work, most recently starring as Steve in A Minecraft Movie (2025), which grossed over $900 million worldwide.
Jack Black hosted Saturday Night Live on April 4, 2026, joining the show's five-timers club, with Jack White as the musical guest.
Black told TMZ in April 2026 that Tenacious D currently has "no plans" for new projects, contradicting bandmate Kyle Gass's earlier statements about a reunion.
Kyle Gass stated in January 2026 that he and Black had "hashed things out" and returned to writing music together.
Tenacious D released their third concert DVD, The Complete Masterworks Vol. 3, on October 3, 2025.
A Minecraft Movie, starring Jack Black as Steve, opened to $162.7 million domestically - the best opening weekend ever for a video-game adaptation - and went on to gross over $900 million worldwide.
