About

Jan Garbarek (born 4 March 1947 in Mysen, Norway) is a tenor and soprano saxophonist whose playing spans jazz, classical, and world music. He has recorded exclusively for ECM Records since the label's very first release in 1969, becoming its best-selling artist. His 1994 album Officium, recorded with the Hilliard Ensemble in an Austrian monastery, sold over 1.5 million copies and reached pop charts across Europe - a rare crossover between medieval polyphony and jazz improvisation.
