Joan As Police Woman is the stage name of New York-based singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist Joan Wasser (born 1970, Biddeford, ME). She launched her solo career in 2004, drawing on classic soul - Al Green, Nina Simone - alongside experimental rock influences, and has since released over a dozen critically acclaimed albums. Her 2006 debut Real Life established her reputation; The Economist later called her 'one of the 21st century's best musicians'.
