Johann Nestroy (1801–1862) was an Austrian playwright, actor and theatre director, one of the central figures of Viennese popular theatre. He was celebrated for his satirical farces and comedies rich in wordplay and social satire, including Einen Jux will er sich machen. His plays continue to be performed on stages throughout the German-speaking world.
