About

John Lennon (1940-1980) was an English musician, songwriter and activist who co-founded the Beatles - the most commercially successful and culturally influential rock group of the 20th century. His songwriting partnership with Paul McCartney remains the most celebrated in pop history. After the Beatles dissolved in 1970, Lennon pursued a solo career marked by raw confessional albums and outspoken peace activism, producing the landmark record Imagine (1971). He was shot and killed outside his New York apartment on 8 December 1980.
