John Porter (born 15 August 1950 in Lichfield, Wales) is a Welsh-born musician, songwriter and guitarist who has lived in Poland since 1976 and become one of the defining figures of Polish rock. He co-founded Porter Band, whose 1980 debut album "Helicopters" is widely regarded as a cornerstone of Polish rock, and later collaborated with Kora and Marek Jackowski in the early Maanam project. Over five decades he has released solo records, acoustic albums and duo projects - most recently winning the Fryderyk Award 2024 for the blues album "On The Wrong Planet" with singer-songwriter Agata Karczewska.
Porter is scheduled to perform the Helicopters '45 show at Klub Stodoła in Warsaw on 12 November 2026, following a sold-out run of the same concert.
To mark the 45th anniversary of "Helicopters", Porter launched the Helicopters '45 tour in 2025, including a premiere performance at the Męskie Granie festival, alongside a remastered reissue of the original 1980 album.
