Klaus Hoffmann (born 26 March 1951 in West Berlin) is a German singer-songwriter, actor and author whose poetic, Berlin-rooted chanson has earned him a place alongside Hildegard Knef in the city's lyrical tradition. He broke through as an actor with the 1976 film 'Die neuen Leiden des jungen W.', winning the Bambi and the Goldene Kamera, while simultaneously building a recording career that now spans more than 50 albums. His name is closely tied to Jacques Brel - he translated Brel's songs into German from his very first album and later staged the world premiere of the musical 'Brel - die letzte Vorstellung' in 1997. He has received the Deutscher Kleinkunstpreis (Chanson category, 1978) and the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis (1980), among other awards.
