Klaus Renft was an East German rock musician and frontman of Klaus Renft Combo, one of the most prominent rock bands in the GDR during the 1970s. The group was banned by East German authorities in 1975 for politically inconvenient lyrics. Renft became a symbol of rock culture's resistance to the communist regime.
