Lemmy (Ian Fraser Kilmister, 1945-2015) was an English musician who founded Motörhead in 1975 and remained its only constant member until his death. His gravelly bass-driven roar - once called "one of the most recognisable voices in rock" - and his Rickenbacker power-chord style shaped the sound of heavy metal, thrash and punk alike. Motörhead released 24 studio albums and sold over 25 million records worldwide, with bands from Metallica to Guns N' Roses citing them as a defining influence.
Longtime Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell, the band's longest-serving member after Lemmy, died on 13 March 2026 at age 64 following a major operation.
Motörhead released The Löst Tapes Vol. 7 on 24 December 2025 to mark what would have been Lemmy's 80th birthday, featuring his 50th birthday concert recorded at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood in 1995.
Motörhead released The Manticore Tapes on 27 June 2025, a previously unheard 1976 studio session featuring the classic Lemmy/Clarke/Taylor lineup, which reached number one on the UK Rock & Heavy Metal chart.
