Lucia di Lammermoor is an opera by Gaetano Donizetti, premiered in 1835, with a libretto by Salvatore Cammarano based on Walter Scott's novel. It follows the tragic fate of a Scottish noblewoman whose forced marriage drives her to madness and death. The work is a cornerstone of Italian bel canto, and its Mad Scene is among the most demanding soprano showpieces in the repertoire.
