Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874–1942) was a Canadian author, best known for her novel Anne of Green Gables (1908). The story of orphan Anne Shirley, set on Prince Edward Island, became the first in a beloved series of books. Montgomery's works have been adapted for film, television and theatre many times.
