Masters of Reality is an American rock band founded in 1981 in Syracuse, New York by singer-guitarist Chris Goss. Their 1989 debut, produced by Rick Rubin, laid the groundwork for what would become stoner and desert rock; the band's name itself comes from a misprinted label on a Black Sabbath record. Goss has remained the sole constant member through shifting lineups that at various points included Cream legend Ginger Baker and Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri - and alongside the band, he built a parallel career as one of rock's most influential producers, working with Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Mark Lanegan and others.
