Michael Hirte (born 10 October 1964 in Spremberg, Brandenburg) is a German harmonica player who rose to national fame overnight when he won the RTL talent show Das Supertalent in November 2008, receiving over 72% of the public vote with his rendition of Ave Maria. Before that breakthrough he had spent years as a street musician after a serious 1991 truck accident left him blind in one eye and with a stiff leg. His debut album Der Mann mit der Mundharmonika went straight to number one across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and he has since released more than ten albums spanning Schlager, folk melodies and film themes.
