About

Nirvana was an American rock band from Aberdeen, Washington, active 1987-1994, built around vocalist and guitarist Kurt Cobain, bassist Krist Novoselic, and drummer Dave Grohl. Their 1991 album Nevermind - anchored by the single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - pulled grunge out of the Pacific Northwest underground and into the global mainstream almost overnight. With over 75 million records sold and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2014, they remain one of the most influential acts in rock history.
