About

Pantera is an American heavy metal band from Arlington, Texas, formed in 1981. Their classic lineup - vocalist Phil Anselmo, bassist Rex Brown, guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul - defined groove metal with albums like Cowboys from Hell (1990) and Vulgar Display of Power (1992), the latter debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200. The band dissolved in 2003; Dimebag Darrell was murdered on stage in 2004, and Vinnie Paul died in 2018. In 2022 the surviving members Anselmo and Brown relaunched the band with guitarist Zakk Wylde and drummer Charlie Benante.
