Paul Ben-Haim

Paul Ben-Haim (1897-1984) was an Israeli composer of German origin, born in Munich as Paul Frankenburger. After emigrating to Palestine in 1933 he changed his name and developed a distinctive style that blends the European classical tradition with Middle Eastern musical elements. His Symphony No. 1 earned him the Israel State Prize in 1953.
