Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer of the 19th century, best known for three ballets that have become cornerstones of the classical repertoire: Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker. He also wrote six symphonies, several operas, and piano concertos. The Nutcracker (1892) remains one of the most frequently performed ballets worldwide.
