Peter Maffay (born 30 August 1949 in Brașov, Romania, as Peter Alexander Makkay) is one of Germany's best-selling musicians of all time, with over 50 million records sold. He emigrated to Germany in 1963 and broke through in 1970 with the single "Du", then reinvented himself as a rock artist with the 1979 album "Steppenwolf". Beyond his own catalogue, he created the beloved Tabaluga fairy-tale rock series and founded the Peter Maffay Stiftung, which supports traumatised and disadvantaged children.
