About

Phil Collins (born 30 January 1951, London) is an English singer, drummer, songwriter and record producer who first rose to fame as the drummer - and later lead vocalist - of the progressive rock band Genesis, before building a parallel solo career that made him one of the most commercially successful artists of the 1980s. His solo catalogue alone has sold over 100 million records, and his combined output with Genesis produced more US Top 40 singles than any other artist across that decade. Beyond music, he won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "You'll Be in My Heart" from Disney's Tarzan (1999) and is credited with popularising the distinctive "gated snare" drum sound that defined the era.
