Placebo are a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1994 by vocalist-guitarist Brian Molko and bassist-guitarist Stefan Olsdal, who have remained the band's two constant members across eight studio albums. They built their reputation on a sound that cuts across post-punk, glam rock and electro, with lyrics that tackle sexuality, addiction and alienation with unusual directness. Their 1998 album Without You I'm Nothing broke them internationally, going platinum in the UK, and they have since sold over 10 million records worldwide. In 2026 the band marks 30 years of their debut with the reworked album Placebo RE:CREATED and a major European arena tour.
Placebo released Placebo RE:CREATED, a reworked version of their 1996 debut album, via Elevator Lady Ltd through AWAL, marking the band's 30th anniversary.
Placebo announced a 36-date 30th Anniversary Tour across Europe and the UK, running from September to December 2026, with arena shows in cities including Vienna, Berlin, Łódź, Prague and London's OVO Wembley Arena.
Placebo performed at London's Royal Albert Hall as part of the Teenage Cancer Trust concert series, alongside Garbage, at the invitation of The Cure's Robert Smith.
