Rio Reiser was a German singer, songwriter and poet, best known as the frontman and creative force behind the Berlin rock band Ton Steine Scherben, active in the 1970s and 80s. The band was one of the most significant German-language rock acts, known for its strongly political and social message. His solo hit „König von Deutschland" (1986) brought him nationwide fame. He died in 1996.
