Rodrigo y Gabriela are a Mexican acoustic guitar duo - Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero - who grew up in Mexico City playing thrash metal before relocating to Dublin, where years of pub gigs and busking on Grafton Street shaped their signature sound. They blend flamenco technique with the energy of rock and heavy metal, performing entirely on acoustic guitars. Their self-titled 2006 album broke them internationally, debuting at number one in Ireland, and their 2019 record Mettavolution won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.
