Rubén Blades is a Panamanian singer, songwriter and actor closely identified with Latin salsa. His collaboration with Willie Colón and the album Siembra (1978) made him a household name - the record remains one of the best-selling salsa albums ever. He has also pursued a political career, running for president of Panama in 1994.
