About

Rymden is a Scandinavian jazz trio formed in 2018, consisting of Norwegian pianist Bugge Wesseltoft and Swedish rhythm section Dan Berglund (bass) and Magnus Öström (drums). The name means "space" or "universe" in Swedish. Berglund and Öström are the former rhythm section of the cult piano trio Esbjörn Svensson Trio (e.s.t.), while Wesseltoft built his reputation through New Conception of Jazz and his Oslo-based Jazzland Records label. The trio's music draws on melancholic Scandinavian songwriting, dramatic rhythms and a broad palette ranging from modern jazz and Bach to progressive rock and ambient.

Rymden released their third studio album Valleys and Mountains on October 6, 2023, on Jazzland Records, featuring guest guitarist John Scofield.
