Safri Duo is a Danish percussion duo formed by Uffe Savery and Morten Friis, who first crossed paths in 1977 at the Tivoli Garden Boys' Guard in Copenhagen and later studied together at the Royal Danish Conservatory of Music. Classically trained on marimba and vibraphone, they built a respected concert repertoire before pivoting to electronic dance music in 2000 with "Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song)", which topped charts across Europe and featured in the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympics. The single and its follow-up album Episode II each sold over a million copies worldwide, making Safri Duo the most internationally successful Danish act since Aqua. They have remained active ever since, releasing new collaborations with EDM producers and performing at major European live events.
Safri Duo released "Head Above Water" on 30 May 2025, a new collaboration with twocolors and Chris de Sarandy on Virgin Records.
Safri Duo performed as part of the Night of the Proms 2025 German tour, appearing at arenas in Mannheim, Dortmund, Oberhausen, Frankfurt, Hanover, Hamburg, Bremen and Munich.
Safri Duo's next announced concert is at Columbia Theater in Berlin on 6 May 2026, followed by a date at Ampere / Muffatwerk in Munich.
"Cynical", a collaboration with German DJ duo twocolors and Chris de Sarandy, topped the German Airplay Charts for multiple weeks and surpassed 280 million streams across platforms.
