Sam Gendel (born in Visalia, California) is a Los Angeles-based saxophonist, composer, and producer whose music sits at the crossroads of jazz, ambient, and electronics. Pitchfork has called him "one of the main fixtures of Los Angeles' bubbling ambient jazz scene," and his prolific output spans solo records, film-score work, and a long string of collaborations - most notably with bassist Sam Wilkes. He co-wrote tracks on Vampire Weekend's 2019 album Father of the Bride and has worked alongside Ry Cooder, Laurie Anderson, Pino Palladino, Blake Mills, and Perfume Genius, among others.
Gendel released 'digi-squires', a seven-track collaborative album with guitarist Nate Mercereau, on his own Fresh Bread Records label.
Gendel appeared on Japanese pop star Gen Hoshino's track 'Mad Hope', alongside Louis Cole and Sam Wilkes.
