Shearwater is an American indie rock band from Austin, Texas, active since 2001 and led by singer, multi-instrumentalist, and naturalist writer Jonathan Meiburg. Originally a side project of Okkervil River, the band built its reputation on atmospheric art rock that draws on folk, orchestral arrangements, and nature-rooted storytelling. Their critically acclaimed 'island arc' trilogy - Palo Santo (2006), Rook (2008), and The Golden Archipelago (2010) - earned them devoted fans including Steven Wilson, who named the latter his favourite album of 2010.

Shearwater announced their new album The New World, due July 31, 2026, via their own Polyborus imprint with Secretly Distribution, sharing two singles 'Daydream Unbeliever' and 'More and More'.

Shearwater's Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign for The New World exceeded its goal in under 72 hours, with surplus funds earmarked for touring in support of the album.
