Smerz
Norwegian electronic duo Smerz perform at the FLUCC club in Vienna.
Smerz is a Norwegian electronic duo formed by Henriette Motzfeldt and Catharina Stoltenberg, who met at high school in Oslo and later split their time between Oslo and Copenhagen. Their sound pulls from chamber music, hip-hop, R&B and hard electronics into something critics have called "deadpan, vividly detailed electro-pop." The duo released their debut album Believer in 2021, collaborated with K-pop group NewJeans in 2023, and broke through to wider audiences with their second album Big city life (2025), which landed on numerous year-end best-of lists.
Smerz released the EP Easy on May 15, 2026 via Escho, described by the duo as "almost like a daily journal," alongside the single "Spring summer."
Smerz kicked off their Big city life European tour on April 11 at the Variations Festival in Nantes, then played Paris before heading to the UK, Ireland and Oslo.
Smerz announced a North American spring tour including a new NYC show at Webster Hall on May 28, surrounding a festival set at Kilby Block Party.
Smerz released Big city life Edits, a remix album featuring contributions from Clairo, ML Buch, Erika de Casier and others.
Smerz released their second studio album Big city life on May 23, 2025 via Escho, recorded across Copenhagen, Oslo and London.
