Soweto Gospel Choir is a South African choral ensemble founded in 2002 in Soweto by choir directors David Mulovhedzi and Beverly Bryer, drawing its singers from churches across the township. The 30-plus-member group blends African gospel, Negro spirituals, reggae and American pop, performing in up to six of South Africa's official languages. They have won three Grammy Awards for Best Traditional World Music Album - for Blessed (2007), African Spirit (2008) and Freedom (2019) - and in 2009 became the first South African act to perform at the Academy Awards.
