Stefan Starzyński (1893–1939) was a Polish politician and Mayor of Warsaw from 1934 to 1939. During the German assault on Poland in September 1939, he became a symbol of the capital's resistance, organising civilian defence and rallying citizens through radio broadcasts. After Warsaw's capitulation he was arrested by the Gestapo and died in German captivity.
