About
System Of A Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band from Glendale, California, formed in 1994 by Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan. Their music fuses metal with Armenian folk influences, abrupt tempo shifts and politically charged lyrics - a combination that propelled the album Toxicity (2001) to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earned them Grammy recognition. Across five studio albums released between 1998 and 2005, they built one of the most distinctive catalogs in modern metal; in 2020 they broke a 15-year recording silence with two singles raising funds for Armenia amid the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
