About

The Hirsch Effekt is a German trio from Hannover, formed in 2008 by Nils Wittrock and Ilja Lappin - who met at the Hanover University of Music, Drama, and Media - and later joined by drummer Moritz Schmidt. Their music defies easy labelling: the band themselves call it "Krawallkunst" (riot art), blending post-hardcore, mathcore, progressive metal and orchestral elements, all sung in German. Seven studio albums in, from the Holon trilogy through Eskapist (2017, #21 on the German charts) to Der Brauch (2026), they remain one of the most distinctive acts in the German-speaking heavy music scene.
