The Mavericks - Country Music
The Mavericks, a celebrated country band known for their energetic live shows, perform at Steinbruch in Duisburg.
The Mavericks are an American band formed in Miami in 1989, whose music has always defied easy categorization - country, rock, Latin rhythms and swing all feed into a sound that is distinctly their own. For over three decades, frontman Raul Malo's rich baritone was the band's defining voice; he died on December 8, 2025, aged 60, after a battle with colon cancer. The remaining members - guitarist Eddie Perez, drummer Paul Deakin and keyboardist Jerry Dale McFadden - are continuing under the Mavericks name, with singers James Otto and Emily West joining for the 2026 'Music Lives On' tour.
The Mavericks announced the 'Music Lives On' 2026 U.S. tour with new vocalists James Otto and Emily West, starting July 17 in Kansas City.
Frontman Raul Malo died on December 8, 2025, aged 60, after a year-and-a-half battle with colon cancer.
A star-studded two-night tribute to Malo was held at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on December 5-6, with over 30 artists performing; the concert was streamed to Malo's hospital room.
Malo revealed in September 2025 that his cancer had progressed to leptomeningeal disease (LMD), and the band canceled all remaining 2025 tour dates except two Ryman shows.
The Mavericks released 'Mono (In Stereo)', a 10th anniversary stereo remix edition of their acclaimed 2015 album Mono, on July 25, 2025.
