About

The Obsessed is an American doom metal band from Potomac, Maryland, founded in the late 1970s by guitarist and vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich. Widely credited as one of the architects of American doom, the band blended Black Sabbath-derived heaviness with the raw energy of the D.C. punk scene and influenced generations of heavy rock acts. After two earlier runs and a long hiatus, Wino relaunched the band in 2016, signing to Relapse Records for the comeback album Sacred (2017) and then releasing Gilded Sorrow (2024) on Ripple Music as a newly expanded four-piece.
