About

Tom Petty (1950-2017) was an American rock singer, guitarist, and songwriter from Gainesville, Florida, best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Over a career spanning four decades, he sold more than 80 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002. Beyond the Heartbreakers, he recorded acclaimed solo albums and was a member of the supergroup the Traveling Wilburys alongside Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne. He died in October 2017 from accidental cardiac arrest, one week after completing the Heartbreakers' 40th Anniversary Tour.
