Tutankhamun was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty, who ruled around 1332-1323 BC. He died young, at roughly eighteen, and his name faded into obscurity until 1922, when Howard Carter uncovered his nearly intact tomb in the Valley of the Kings. The discovery gripped the world, and the pharaoh's golden burial mask has since become one of the most iconic objects of ancient Egyptian civilization.
